Dental check-up in Myeongdong as a tourist: what happens in 30 minutes
No Korean insurance, no Korean, no problem. Here is exactly what a travellers’ check-up looks like, minute by minute.

Yes. Tourists can walk into a dental check-up in Myeongdong without Korean insurance. At Guardians Dental, one minute from Myeongdong Station Exit 9, a check-up with X-ray takes about 30 minutes and is explained in English. You leave knowing what needs care now and what can safely wait until you are home.
Who a travellers’ check-up is for
Most people who book a check-up with us are not in pain. They are on a long trip, they have not seen their own dentist for a while, or they want a second opinion before committing to treatment back home. Some simply want a clean bill of health before a whitening session.
If any of these sound like you, a check-up is the easiest dental visit to fit into a Seoul itinerary: it is short, it needs no follow-up appointment, and it gives you a clear plan.
The 30 minutes, step by step
- Arrival and form (5 min). You fill in a short health form in English. Tell us about any medication, allergies and recent dental work.
- X-ray (5 min). A low-dose digital X-ray shows what the eye cannot: decay between teeth, old fillings, roots and bone.
- Exam (10 min). The dentist checks each tooth, your gums and your bite, and looks at the X-ray with you on screen.
- Plan (10 min). We sort what we found into three groups: needs care now, can wait until you are home, and nothing to do.
“Now” or “when you are home”?
This is the most useful part of the visit. A small cavity that is not causing pain can often wait a few weeks, and we will tell you so. A cracked filling or a deep cavity close to the nerve is different, because flying and a change of diet can turn it into a toothache mid-trip.
What you can add on the same day
- Scaling and polish (about 40 minutes): the natural next step after a check-up.
- DIAwhite whitening (about an hour): best a few days after scaling, see our timing guide.
- A small filling: usually possible within 1–2 days.
What to bring
- Your passport or another photo ID.
- A list of your medicines, or a photo of the boxes.
- Any recent X-rays from home, if you have them on your phone.
